Infinera is searching for an Optical Test Engineer supporting development of new Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC)-based, high speed, and advanced modulation coherent optical engines. This position is within the Optical Integrated Circuit Group (OICG) in Sunnyvale, CA.
The candidate should have knowledge of optoelectronic device physics, coherent optical test and measurement methods, and software automation. Experience with optical link design including power budgets, OSNR calculations, fiber penalties (CD, PMD, nonlinearities), and critical components specifications is essential.
The broad job responsibilities include the hands-on testing and characterization of PIC-modules and subsystems to verify performance, fundamental understanding of coherent optical modules and components, including optical transceivers, tunable laser, MZ modulators, modulator drivers, photodetectors, transimpedance amplifiers, EDFAs, and coherent digital signal processing. The successful candidate will work closely with Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC), ASIC, module design, and product engineering teams to ensure quality release of new products from design concept through to the manufacturing phase
Strong background with semiconductor optical devices such as laser, detectors, modulators and other integrated devices.
Demonstrated proficiency in device characterization and automated testing as required in design and development.
Programming experience in Matlab, C, C++, VB.net, or similar for automation of instrument control and data acquisition.
Strong problem solving, failure mode analysis, teamwork, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills are essential to succeed in this position.
Ability to work with a large body of data and the necessary statistical analysis tools, and the ability to present the data and ideas to a diverse audience.
Job will require frequent interaction with PIC design, PIC test, ASIC design, packaging and system engineering groups, as well as with quality/reliability and product engineering personnel.
Ability to work in an integrated team environment.
Ph.D in Electrical Engineering, Photonics or a related discipline with emphasis in optical communications and high speed optical components. Candidates with an M.S./M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering or Photonics, with a minimum of 5 years experience in the above fields will also be considered.
