• Design high speed VCSELs for data rates up to 56Gbps using NRZ and PAM formats. • Perform high speed VCSEL and detector characterization and optical link analysis. • Work with transceiver and IC design engineers to create optical and electrical models of VCSELs and detectors. • Analyze optical link budgets and characterize components to determine performance requirements. • Manage design projects, create package drawings, and analyze test data to establish specifications. • Collaborate with the Epi and Fab Development teams to ensure manufacturing robustness. • Support VCSEL manufacturing with data analysis to troubleshoot problem areas and ensure manufacturing robustness.
Experience • Three to five years VCSEL design experience. • Experience with laboratory characterization of VCSELs and Detectors for high speed optical links. • Experience with laser simulation software (Example: Lasermod, etc). • Experience with data communication modulation formats (NRZ, PAM4, QPSK, QAM, etc). • Design and analysis of RF design for high speed VCSEL and photodiode interfaces. • Ability to do link budget analysis.
Education • PhD in electrical engineering or physics or equivalent knowledge/experience in this field is required.
Skills • The successful candidate will be innovative, use statistical thinking in decision-making, and be self-motivated, influential and persistent. • Strong interpersonal/teaming skills, able to communicate effectively with employees from all levels of the organization. • Strong written communication and verbal communication skills (listening, making presentations). • Proficiency in various software packages and statistical methodologies like JMP, DFM, DFSS, Six Sigma, DOE, MSA, Matlab and ADS. • Excellent laboratory skills using high speed test equipment such as network analyzers, pattern generators, oscilloscopes, error detectors, etc.
