R&D Mechanical Development Engineers play an important role in our new product development phases to develop, optimize and document new product architecture, support new product introduction (NPI) in initial prototype builds and ensure manufacturability of module assemblies into mass production at CM’s and Finisar's manufacturing factories.
R&D Mechanical Development Engineers are also expected to keep investigating and evaluating new design and process technologies, develop capabilities and applications to utilize these technologies in Finisar's manufacturing processes to improve cost, quality and time to market.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop module mechanics and provide guidance to process team of assembly processes for Finisar’s innovative high speed transceiver modules. • Coordinate design and fabrication process of mechanical components. • Generate/maintain documentation for new module mechanical design. • Travel up to 20% is required to interact with overseas production facilities in Malaysia and China. • Work with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure their processes meet our design requirements. • Work closely with module design and OSA component groups and support project team by providing/ coordinating appropriate DFM reviews, committing to development schedules and meeting project milestones.
Experience • Must have “hands-on” experience in mechanical component development which includes creating design drawings, tolerance study, structural analysis using FEA & verification testing. • Minimum of 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in mechanical design & assembly process development for high volume production in fiber optics or consumer electronics industries. • Hands-on working experience and knowledge in optical transceiver module mechanical design and design verification testing. • Proven track record of successfully designing optical transceiver product from concept to production.
Education • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering (MS degree preferred).
Skills • Some knowledge in electronic micro packaging is preferred. • Extensive knowledge in Solidworks and Solidworks Simulation, & Agile. • Extensive knowledge in design analysis such structural and thermal analysis, tolerance study using Monte Carlo simulation. • Extensive knowledge in design documentation, GD&T, MSA, and TIA/EIA FOCIS standards. • Excellent problem-solving, design and root-cause analysis skills. • Knowledge of epoxy/eutectic die or component attach, wire/ribbon bonding, laser welding, hermetic sealing processes are preferred. • Knowledge of flex circuit and rigid PCB fabrication processes is preferred. • Proficient in data analysis & design of experiments (DOE). • Expertise in the development/operation of production tooling and fixtures, and in the use of standard lab tools and metrology equipment. • Excellent communication, planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills. • Creative, Self-reliance, dependable, assertive, think outside of the box.
