Research & Development Scientist
Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the Research and Development Scientist is to lead a research project on glass processing for optical fiber applications which will drive the improvement of our silica material and its manufacturing processes to meet or exceed the requirements of the telecommunication industry. In this position you will work with international teams of researchers and collaborate with academic institutions.
Your role and responsibilities:
Demonstrated ability to innovate, initiate independent research and solve problems.
Independently plan, direct and conduct research activities supporting the design of new products to customer’s or industry specifications or the modification of existing products.
Solve complex technical problems as well as develop and recommend new alternatives by utilizing expertise to accelerate development of new products.
Experience and in-depth knowledge in the following areas is desired:
Material science and processing of high purity synthetic silica.
Optics and waveguide theory,
Telecommunication systems, optical components, devices, and fibers,
Chemical vapor deposition or doping process for high purity silica
Experience in the following areas would also be a plus:
Controls and automation and statistical data analysis or data mining,
Manufacturing processes & applications of optical fibers,
Finite Element Modeling of heat transfer or computational fluid dynamics,
Mechanical engineering and design
Specialty fibers, fiber sensors, or fiber lasers.

What is required for this role:
Ph.D. degree or equivalent in physics, chemistry, engineering or material science is highly preferred. Graduate degree is required.
A minimum of five (5) years of Research and Development experience in optical fiber, glass processing, optics or synthetic silica materials.
Self-starter with attention to detail required.
Demonstrate a high level of professionalism as well as exhibit high level of motivation and initiative.
