The Staff Process/FMA Engineer is responsible for leading an expansive range of process/equipment development and expert characterization and analysis in a cutting edge optical telecommunications environment. He or she must be a multitasking team player, able to interface with multiple engineering groups in multiple locations as well as serving as an expert interface to external analysis laboratories. The person should have hands-on experience with manufacturing process development and be well versed in materials science and a multitude of failure analysis techniques. He or she must be adept in Design of Experiment (DOE), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), innovative data reduction, and statistical analysis. Candidate must have the ability to work in a clean-room environment.
Develop, characterize, and qualify manufacturing processes from concept through development and transfer to manufacturing including specifying and procuring required equipment, process flow, process development/verification, and qualification plan
Design, execute, and analyze experiments through DOE and statistical techniques
Set up and conduct process checks and complete process documentation for assigned processes to be successfully transitioned into Manufacturing
Lead and perform Failure Mode Analysis (FMA) techniques as part of process characterization and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) plans
Train technicians and oversee equipment calibration and maintenance scheduling
PhD in Materials Science or Engineering, 0-10 years’ experience
Demonstrated ability to initiate, prioritize, and drive projects to conclusion
Ability to effectively communicate ideas, concepts, and results to both highly technical and non-technical co-workers
Ability to function independently as well as in a team environment
Hands-on experience with various failure analysis techniques and tools, including SEM/EDS, FIB, FT-IR, optical microscopy/cross sectioning, profilometry, XRF, XPS, dye and pry, reliability testing, etc.
A strong understanding of metals and ceramics
A strong understanding of electro-plating and corrosion principles
Working knowledge of mechanical drawings and dimensional tolerances
Understanding of optics is a plus
Ability to work effectively in a clean-room environment
Maintain a clean and safe working environment
Excellent written & verbal communication skills required
Ability to travel up to ~20%
