Adaptive Optics Associates – Xinetics (AOX), a wholly-owned Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS) Business Venture, is currently seeking a Quality Control Technician in support of its East Hartford Business Area. AOA Xinetics designs, develops, and manufactures precision, advanced optical products and systems such as deformable mirrors, optical systems, adaptive optics control systems and silicon carbide optical structures for the U.S. Government, commercial customers, and U.S. defense prime and second-tier contractors. Markets for these technologies include civilian astronomy and semiconductor capital equipment as well as defense ISR and Directed Energy. Several potential direct and adjacent application areas also exist. The Company has substantial growth opportunities in support of many U.S. Government and NGAS business initiatives.
AOX delivers industrial photonics systems and R&D services for a variety of customers and applications. AOX excels in a range of applications from adaptive optical systems, deformable mirrors, wavefront sensors, precision actuators, to photonic systems that acquire and process data in real time for a variety of high availability applications. AOX’s capabilities include lightweight passive and active hybrid CERAFORM silicon carbide optics and precision structures as well as large and small precision opto-mechanical systems supporting electronics and sophisticated controls software.
The Quality Control Technician performs analyses and tests of raw materials, packaging materials, in-process sub-assemblies and/or finished products from manufacturing, to ensure quality standards and compliance to customer and regulatory requirements, and tolerance specifications for the chemical or physical property. Performs a variety of qualitative tests or qualitative assays on samples, and aids in maintenance and certification of test instruments and apparatus to ensure compliance. Prepares and monitors quality statistics and reports. Reviews production records for conformance to procedures. Conducts non-conformance tests of manufactured, packaged or tested product.
The Quality Control Technician will report directly to the AOX Quality Manager. This position provides an exciting technical opportunity in a high-growth, strategically important business for NGAS. We are looking for a detail oriented technician with exceptional people skills. Specifically, the details of the position are the following:
Inspect precision optical and mechanical components. Inspect electrical assemblies and wiring harnesses. Recommend and document inspection or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product compliance and reliability. Proposes changes in design to improve system and/or process reliability.
Review and verify optical and electrical testing methods, environments and test results. May witness and verify product performance testing. Compile data and define changes required in product design, test equipment, test procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements. Evaluate product compliance to requirements and readiness to release.
Perform first article qualifications, incoming and in-process inspections. Document inspection performance and findings, generate Non-conformance reports and facilitate their disposition. Monitor and coordinate inspections queue and workflow.
Maintain test equipment calibration database. Monitor and report on calibration program performance.
Perform internal audits of performance to company QMS procedures and/or documented program specific procedures.
Working Environment & Physical Demands:
Position is located at AOX East Hartford, CT.
Occasional travel to supplier sites for source inspection or supplier evaluation.
Ability to handle and inspect very fragile, very expensive objects without damaging them.
Ability to sit for extended periods of times and light physical effort required.
Responsible self-starter and team player with unquestionable integrity
Associates Degree in a technology or math curriculum
Minimum 3 years’ experience in Precision optical, mechanical, and electrical inspections
Direct experience developing and implementing inspection and test processes
Great problem prevention and troubleshooting skills
Direct experience working with engineering and/or manufacturing to prevent non-conformities
Must be able to complete process to obtain a Top Secret government clearance as a condition of continued employment
Experience in DoD, Aerospace, Medical or Semiconductor Fab product development and manufacturing
Experience working in or implementing copy exact control systems.
IPC, ASQ, or other Inspection, Internal Audit, Quality Inspector/Technician certifications
Experience performing internal audits to ISO 9001, AS9100 or similar standards.
Precision optical, mechanical and electrical manufacturing experience.
Active Top Secret Clearance within last 2 years
