The Samtec Optical Group in Santa Clara, CA develops and manufactures an advanced line of extremely high speed (56 Gbps and up) optical computer interconnect solutions, including FireFly™ Embedded Optical Modules.
Samtec Optical Group is seeking a Reliability Engineer to join the development team in Sunnyvale, California to be responsible for all aspects of product reliability. This work includes assessing component and module reliability and developing their predictive reliability models. The successful candidate will work with the product and process development engineers to develop FMEAs, will work with our suppliers to understand our component reliability, and work with the qualification testing lab to develop the qualification test plans. The reliability engineer will also be responsible for failure analysis on qualification and development testing failures, and drive root cause / corrective actions to resolve these failure modes.
Organize and coordinate qualification testing for NPI and Process Engineering.
Coordinate with external laboratories to undertake reliability evaluations when in-house capabilities do not exist.
Evaluate test results, complete data analysis and present evaluations.
Undertake and document failure analysis to support engineering development and NPI.
Manage Samtec’s internal life test systems.
Create tools in JMP to encapsulate queries and analyses for broader deployment across the organization
Support NPI, Production and Equipment Engineering teams with statistical analysis for variability assessment, predictive modeling, and root cause analysis
Master’s degree in EE, Physics, Material Science or related field; PhD preferred.
5 plus years’ experience in reliability and failure analysis.
Background in optoelectronics and associated packaging materials & techniques.
Expertise in JMP or Minitab, knowledge of statistical analysis techniques and reliability models.
The candidate must show initiative and be able to work under limited supervision.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
