Amazon’s Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
You will be part of a team to develop high bandwidth systems for free space optical communication between satellites. You will leverage the latest optical technologies from the commercial fiber telecommunication and data center industries while driving development of custom components where needed to achieve a low-cost, light-weight, and reliable systems that meets the challenging performance needs for the harsh space environment. You will support the Amazon network layer team to develop a “fiber-in-the-sky” solution.
You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
We’re looking for someone who has:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in high-speed (>100Gbps) optical communications systems or supporting opto-mechanical or electronics development across full product life cycles, from concept to mass production
Experience with electro-optics, fiber optic components, mechanical packaging or high-speed analog electronics; Experience with spaceflight systems is not required
An ability to lead interdisciplinary discussions between Hardware, Reliability, and Firmware teams to define and drive scope and clarity of work, and reach optimum system level trade-offs
An ability to provide thought leadership and key input on new initiatives as well as on programs underway
An ability to regularly engage with senior stake holders and influence across the organization
Knowledge of the opto-electronics industry and component suppliers within the fiber telecommunications and/or data center industry
