We currently seek a Development Engineer to join our division located in Avon, CT, and help support our continued business growth.
This position will be responsible for the design and development of new specialty fiber and fiber-based sensing products within our New Product Development (NPD) system through close collaboration with colleagues in various functions including preform, fiber process engineering, sensing process, cable, coatings, sensing, test & reliability, supply chain, quality, OFS Labs and other teams.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Work closely with customers to understand customers’ applications and requirements and provide customized solutions.
Provide technical support to Fiber/Sensing Value Stream Manager (VSM) in product portfolio management and optimization.
Review customers’ requests, design and cost as part of Request for Quote (RFQ) process
Lead or participate in projects to design, and develop specialty optical fiber and fiber-based sensing products including Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBGs)
Lead or participate in activities to support sales and marketing teams
Provide support to preform, fiber draw process, sensing process, and test & reliability teams and participate in projects for manufacturing process and test capability development.
Interact as part of a team with customer to gain insight into requirements in order to provide recommendations or customized solutions
Lead, or participate in activities and projects to solve engineering problems critical to fiber further processing and the actual applications
Maintain integrity of technical data for existing fiber and sensing products
Participate activities or projects for portfolio optimization
Perform other related duties as required by management.
Key qualifications include:
PhD in Optics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or other technical disciplines and 1- 5 years’ working experience in research and development/manufacturing environment.
In depth knowledge and experience in fiber optics required

Excellent written, verbal, presentation and communication skills
Travel is required (both national and international) for customer visits and attending conferences and trade shows
Demonstrate effective communication (verbal, written) skills
