As part of Infinera's Optical Systems Group, you will have a unique opportunity to contribute to the design and architecture of optical transport systems for Infinera’s disruptive pluggable transponder technology. You will be responsible for architecting and implementing new optical hardware and software platforms in collaboration with our Systems Engineering and Software Development teams. You will also be responsible for the experimental investigation of transmission performance.

Key Responsibilities:
Analyzing and simulating optical network line system architecture options
Developing key specifications and baseline designs for new optical line system cards including optical amplifiers, ROADMs and optical multiplexers
Designing and validating control algorithms and optical performance monitoring to optimize end-to-end optical performance.
Owning the detailed hardware and software design documentation used by development, test and field teams and reviewing with multi-site engineering teams
Supporting experimental analysis of component/module capabilities and technological feasibility of new platforms
Experimentally analyzing the impact of optical impairments (including chromatic dispersion, PDL, polarization transients, filtering, crosstalk, nonlinearities) on transmission
Developing system design rules and performance models
Demonstrating pluggable optics transmission capabilities to key customers
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Hands-on experience with DWDM transmission systems including passive optical networks, coherent transponders, EDFAs, Raman amplifiers and ROADMs
Knowledge of advanced coherent modulation formats including practical experience with their transmission
Extensive experience with automated data acquisition and analysis using high-speed electro-optic test and measurement equipment
Experience with optical link design including power budgets, OSNR calculations, and transmission penalties
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Excellent programming, analytical and troubleshooting skills
Highly motivated team player adept at cross-functional interaction

Ph.D. in Optics/Engineering + 2 years of experience or M.S. in Optics/Electrical Engineering + 7 years of experience
