Position: Optical Product Development Engineer for High Speed Cables
Location: Nashua, NH
Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, high bandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks, Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help to enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEM’s globally. Our global headquarters are located in Nashua, NH and we have design, sales and manufacturing locations globally. We are currently seeking an Optical Product Development Engineer to join our team. The position will be located in Nashua, NH.
Summary:
Responsible for design and development of optical products for 100Gbps signaling and beyond. The individual will be responsible for developing active optical cable and optical transceiver products and supporting the development of test systems and product qualifications. The position requires close customer interaction with development of product requirements and specifications. The engineering team helps define the roadmap and strategy for Amphenol’s fast growing businesses in cloud computing and large datacenter deployments.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, debug and support of active optical cable and optical transceiver products at 25Gbps, 100Gbps, 400Gbps, and beyond.
Lead the schematic and PCBA design for active optical cable and transceiver products.
Lead the optical design, including micro-optics, optical alignment, and simulation, for active optical cable and transceiver product.
Define and source critical components, such as light source, laser driver, TIA, PD, for high-speed application.
Establish product testing procedure; Identify test requirement and equipment for optical product characterizations.
Work hand-in-hand with firmware engineer in the development of active optical cable and transceiver products.
Work with test engineer/technician on Engineering Verification Tests (EVT) and Design Verification Tests (DVT).
Work with NPI and process engineers on new product introduction to manufacturing sites.
Work with mechanical integrity team and mechanical design team in the development of active optical cable and transceiver products.
Attend conferences and exhibitions, such as OFC, ECOC, and DesignCon to provide technical presence.
Work with frond-end team to visit customers and provide technical support.
Mentor other members as needed.
Visit manufacturing plants during product ramp up, as needed.
Qualifications:
Advanced degree in EE, Optical Engineering, or relevant fields and 2~5 years of industry experience in optical transceiver design, validation, and fiber optics components.
Experience with circuit theory, high-speed design, signal integrity, and power integrity.
Experience with PCB/A design.
Experience in micro-optics, optical alignment, and optical simulation.
Experience with active optical cable and transceiver manufacturing.
Good understanding in active optical cable and transceiver architectures.
Good understanding in fiber optics, waveguide theory, laser theory, physical optics, and ray-tracing techniques.
Good understanding in high-speed SerDes, PAM4, and CDRs (both analog and digital).
Proficient with tools such as Cadence Capture, Allegro, PSPICE, or similar.
Proficient with numerical tools such as HFSS, Zemax, Lumerical, Comsol, or similar.
Understanding of finite-element, finite-difference, FDTD numerical techniques.
Working knowledge of ROSA/TOSA design, silicon photonics, modulations, DMLs, EMLs, etc.
Additional experience preferred:
Work experience in multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Knowledge of system level and channel/link modeling.
Good understanding of optical transceiver technical evolution.
