We are currently looking for a highly motivated Principal Engineer Advanced Technology (M/F/D) to join our Advanced Technology team in Berlin, Germany. ADVA’s Advanced Technology group develops the optical networking technology of the future and initiates their transition into ADVA’s products. In this group, there is an opportunity for a motivated and creative engineer or physicist with in-depth experience in electro-optic component design.

Principle duties and essential functions

• Performing research and development on photonic components

• Conduct multi-physics modelling on devices - primarily electro-magnetic but also thermal and mechanical

• Derive mathematical models of complex systems

• Develop algorithms for control and stabilization of electro-photonic components

• Generate specifications for optical components

• Aid characterization and test of PICs, perform analysis on yield across wafers

• Cooperation with national and international project partners

• Internal project lead for research and advanced development projects

• Creative application of knowledge and experience in the following fields:

- Photonic integrated circuits

- Lasers and SOAs

- Signal processing

Knowledge, skills and experience required

• PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or related area

• Very good knowledge in PIC design, layout and characterization

• Generating models of complex systems

• Good programming skills (Python, Matlab)

• Excellent presentation and communication skills

• Innovative, highly motivated personality

• Fluent in oral and written English, fluency in German is a plus

• Capability to think strategic, innovative, constructive and application oriented
